| GOKARNA MATH This Math for Vaishnava Saraswats was started at Bhatkal in 1476. It enjoyed the patronage of the Keladi rulers and the Vaishnava Saraswats of Goa and most of those from undivided Kanara were its followers. This Math was named after Swamy Jeevottam Tirtha and was later shifted to Partagali (Goa). Vira Vithala is the deity worshippped by the swamis of the math. H.H.Shreemad Vidhyadhiraj Teertha succeeded to the Peetha in 1973 has been vigorously pursuing his religious duties despite his indifferent health in initial years. The Math has its head quarters at Partagali and has establishments at Bhatkal, Gokurna, Basrur, Bicholim, Rivona, Manglore, Ankola, Karwar, Varanasi, Wadala (Mumbai), Vasco, Gangolli, Venkatapur, Honnavar, Yellapur, Badrinath, Siddapur, Belgaum, Hubli, Porvorim, Madgaon, Bhadravati, Mardol-Kunkoliem, and Manki. This Math has celebrated its Panch-Shatabadi (Quin-centenary) to mark the beginning of the process of integration of the community. |

KASHI MATH The Kashi Math is one of the two Vaishnava Maths of the saraswats with its head quarters at Varanasi or Kashi been upholding moral values too in a world steeped inmaterialism together with spiritual values. The swamijis have been repeating the traditional values by saying that while amassing wealth (artha) and fulfilling desires (kama), Dharma should not be forgotten, and the final goal, Moksha should not be neglected. The community has the benefit of learning these lessons regularly at the feet of these swamijis. The Kashi Math has its branches and establishments at Kashi, Prayag, Haridwar, Basrur, Bantwal, Rameshwaram, Karkal, Goa, Kerala, Tirupathi, Banglore and Calicut. KAVALE MATH Kaivalya or Kavale Math was founded by Vivaranandaswamy, disciple of Govind Bhagavatpada in about 740 A.D, at Kushasthali, near Keloshi, in Goa. He is believed to have come from Kashmir. He followed the Smarta Shankara Sampradaya. Later on the Math was revived at Kavale (Goa) in about 1630. The swamis worship Bhavani Shankar, and a shrine of this deity is located in the precints of the math at Kavale. The Math has its branches at Varanasi, Allahabad, Nasik, Mumbai, Khanapur, Goa, Gokurn, Sadashivgad, and Belgaum. The Smarta Gaud Saraswats called as "Adves' (people with 'add nama') in South Kanara are also followers of this Math. |

CHITRAPUR MATH The Smarta Saraswats in the Keladi Kingdom were forced to created new math at Gokarna in about 1708. The 1st Guru, Parijananashram swamy was succeeded by Shankarasrama Swamy ( 1702-57) and his samadhi at Chitrapur near Shirali in Uttara Kannada became the nuclues of the new math. Later on the Math was well developed restarting the Rathotsava at Chitrapur, organizing a museum in the math premises and initiating may other socio-cultural programmes. Recently the eleventh Guru of Shri Chitrapur Math, H.H Shreemad Sadyojat Shankarashram ascended the Gurupitta at Shirali on February 27, 1997.
